Xanadains gave themselves totally human looks to mix into the culture so not to be noticed……..
… and spent nine months acclimating themselves to Earth’s political, social, and moral environment. Because their own beliefs required them to give every being a chance to be trusted (even when they seemed most untrustworthy), they waited longer than they should have. Rather, they waited longer than they would have if they had been an Earth native; and as a result, Earth’s great stellar armies destroyed their planet when peace talks took too long for Earth’s impatient and arrogant government.
Ben and Jonah were both lost in thought, and neither realized they had stopped talking and were, instead, imagining how it must have been for the peaceful Xanadains who were living on Earth, permanently exiled the moment their planet exploded in a burst of cosmic fire.
Heaving a thoughtful sigh, Ben returned to his history book.
“It’s a good thing Ms. Fraiser won’t require us to write any reports on Earth’s supposed existence,” remarked Jonah darkly. “You know our parents would never stand for that kind of propaganda being treated just like historical truth.”
Ben hesitated over his page, then decided not to say anything back for now, pretending he was completely engrossed in the list of Winterhaven’s Ruling Body of Elders, from the Year of the Star-Sword to the present. He was quiet, and paid attention to things many people said while they assumed he wasn’t listening; and he knew that not everyone believed as his parents and Jonah’s did…
